ABOUT US

Founded in January 2020 we focus solely on BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) instead of following the popular trend of being a MMA school.

Our mission is to offer world class instruction and passion for the sport to inspire people to be the best version of themselves and help them to build the strength and resilience to achieve their goals on and off the mats. Whether it’s to reduce stress, self-defence, weight loss, improve confidence, or to be a world class competitor.

Our goal is to create a family-friendly environment that welcomes anyone with a good attitude who wants to train BJJ.

We believe that through BJJ its possible to bring back some values forgotten in today’s society in order to create better humans and consequently a better world.

WHY JIU-JITSU?

It’s not just a sport. It’s a lifestyle. the benefits of BJJ go further than a healthy and strong body. By challenging yourself every day it helps to build up your confidence and creates a strong mindset that will help you to achieve whatever goals you have in life.

Many people start training BJJ as a hobby and it changes their life for the better. its not only a full body workout that improve your endurance and flexibility. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instills confidence, positive attitude, patience and determination into every one of its students. it changes your way of thinking, gives you problem solving skills and improves your processing and decision making and helps you to be comfortable when under pressure.

There is no cheating in BJJ, the only way to get better is to train more and show up. there is no shortcuts. there are no privileges. On the mats we are all the same, regardless of your social position, skin color, faith and beliefs.

“ Life can be stressful and jiu-jitsu can help you regain balance.”

ABOUT LUCAS MELEEP

Head Coach

Lucas had his first contact with Jiu-Jitsu in his hometown Rio de Janeiro, 2004 with a friend, Miltom Vieira, who at that time was a brown belt in a small academy in his neighborhood. The academy’s head coach called Flavius Virginio is one of the first black belts under master Ricardo De La Riva, creator of the famous De La Riva guard. Lucas was 14 years old when started and got hooked up from the first class. Few months later BJJ became his favorite activity.

After winning some local competitions as a white belt he got promoted to blue belt and at that time he realized that he had found his passion and that he wanted to keep practicing BJJ for all his life.

With time he became more and more committed, he started training every day, and them twice a day. He used to visit other gyms in order to train with different people and improve his game. Also Flavius used to take some students to train at other gyms like De LA Riva, GFTeam, Team Nogueira, among others. He did a few competitions in Rio as blue and purple belt and got some state titles.

As soon as he got his brown belt, Lucas had a tear on his MCL and had to stay away from the mats for 6 months. That 6 months of the mat was hard but it led Lucas to discover another passion – teaching BJJ. Master flavius moved to UAE and took 3 more students with him, so it was time to Lucas to help in some classes at the same gym he started.

In October 2013 he became a Black Belt under Professor Flavius and at that time he was already teaching some classes. After graduating as a Mechanical engineer in the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas start teaching a lot and decided to start competing again beside his students in order to encourage them.

In 2016 Lucas decided to quit his job and go to Australia following his dream.

He lived for 8 months in Brisbane where he taught at a small gym called Stage6 and also at De La Riva Brisbane.

Then by the end of the same year he moved to Sydney where he had to work in construction for a while. He kept training hard at Garage jiu jitsu Sydney and after 8 months he was invited to start teaching there. In a few months he was teaching full time.

He used to teach at garage Jiu-Jitsu CBD, Bondi Junction and Caringbah. This was a great experience and he evolve a lot as a coach and as an athlete. In 2019 he went to most of the main competitions in Australia, competing and working as a referee in some of them. He finished the year of 2019 as the number 2 ranked adult black belt at Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, national champion GI and NO GI, QLD state Champion and also had a few students that were national champions in their division beside him.

2019 was a great year of competitions but also Lucas found out he was going to be a father, so he decided to move up to Sunshine coast to start his family and to have his own school.

“For me it’s just the beginning of this dream and I’m still far away from where I want to get in the sport. I just would like to thank god for everything he has put on my way, for giving me health and strength to keep following what I believe in. I would like also to thank my wife for supporting and sharing this dream with me. I couldn’t have achieved what I’ve done so far without her support and she is always there for me during the hardest days. And for last but not least important – all my training partners, masters and students that in some way helped me with lessons, training and friendship. I couldn’t do it without you guys. And now it’s just about paying it back. Everything that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has helped me to achieve. I feel like it’s my obligation to share it with as many people as possible.” – Lucas Meleep, Owner, Founder and Head Coach of Temple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
